Zack de la Rocha is an American musician and activist, born in Long Beach, California on January 12, 1970. He is best known as the singer of the rock band Rage Against the Machine. While in high school he joined the band Hard Stance that evolved into the band Inside Out. The band released a single album together titled No Spiritual Surrender in 1990. In 1991 he helped form the band Rage Against the Machine. While together they released 4 studio albums, 2 live albums, and 17 singles. They won two Grammy Awards and were nominated for a total of six. In 2008 they were inducted into the Kerrang Hall of Fame. In 2000 the band broke up and Zack decided to pursue a solo career. He worked on a solo album and a number of songs, but none were ever released. In 2007 Rage Against the Machine reunited and toured around the United States and internationally until 2011. In 2008 Zack helped form the band One Day as a Lion and they released one EP while together titled One Day as a Lion. He has also been involved in activism for a number of different causes and spoke on the floor of UN about the treatment of Abu-Jamal by the United States.
When rap-rock supergroup Prophets of Rage officially announced its lineup on Tuesday, as rumored, one name was conspicuously missing: Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack de La Rocha. In his former band, the fiery MC was the center of attention, but ever since RATM originally disbanded in 2000, his output has been sparse. While guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk went on to make three albums in six years with Audioslave, and Morello launched his Nightwatchman project, the world still waits for De La Rocha’s full-length statement as a non-Rage artist.
As rumors of a De La Rocha solo album swirled, RATM reunited in 2007, playing 50 shows in four years, including massive performances such as a Coachella headlining slot and the free ‘Battle of Britain’ show in London’s Finsbury Park. During that time, De La Rocha said, “I think our relationship now is better than it’s ever been.” RATM thrived off that energy until July 30th, 2011, when they played their final show to date at the L.A. Coliseum.
Outside of Rage, One Day as a Lion – a stripped-down collaboration with drummer Jon Theodore – has been De La Rocha’s highest-profile project, resulting in a thunderous EP that dropped amid the RATM reunion in 2008. (Commerford told Rolling Stone in 2015 that the MC had been “working his ass off” on a follow-up, but no further details have emerged.) Otherwise, De La Rocha has remained strangely elusive, popping up only occasionally to work with artists like DJ Shadow, Saul Williams and Run the Jewels. Now that he’s staying on the sidelines while his bandmates revive their incendiary songs with help from Chuck D and B-Real during a politically fraught election year, the mystique surrounding De La Rocha has only intensified. As we await official word on the rap-rock luminary’s next move, here’s a breakdown of his activities outside of RATM.

Zack de la Rocha Net Worth $50 Million
Of Mexican, Irish and German ancestry, Zack is the son of Olivia Lorryne Carter and Robert “Beto” de la Rocha, an artist and muralist; his parents divorced when he was only six years old and from his hometown he moved to Irvine, California to live with his mother.
During his junior high school, Zack befriended Tim Commerford with whom he started the band Juvenile Expression. From there, he moved on to the band Hardstance, from which the hardcore band Inside Out was formed in 1988. As a part of Inside Out, Zack is credited with a single record – “No Spiritual Surrender” – released through Revelation Records, two years following the band’s formation, but then in 1991, the band broke up.
Zack then started performing in clubs, but as a hip-hop artist, which caught the attention of the guitarist Tom Morello. The two talked and decided on forming a band, and with the addition of Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford, Zack’s longtime friend, Rage Against the Machine was formed. In 1992, the group released their debut self-titled album through Epic Records, which became successful as it achieved multiple platinum status in the US, Australia and Britain, which propelled them to stardom and increased Zack’s net worth to a large degree. In order to promote their album, Rage Against the Machine went on tour, including performing on the main stage at Lollapalooza in 1993.
Their second album – “Evil Empire” – came out in 1996, and became the first Rage Against album to peak at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart, while it also achieved multiple platinum status in the US, further increasing Rocha’s wealth.
The band continued in the same rhythm, producing political songs which resulted in another No. 1 album “The Battle of Los Angeles”, released in November 1999, again adding a considerable amount to Zack’s net worth as it achieved double platinum status in the US and Canada. Before he left the group, they released one more album – “Renegades” – their least successful album, though it still achieved platinum status in the US and Australia.
Zack left the band in 2001, as he wasn’t satisfied with the freedom given to his writing talents; he became more focused on politics, but other members of the band didn’t like it and as a result, the group went on hiatus which lasted until 2007. From 2007 to 2011 they toured extensively with the last show performed at the LA Coliseum on the 30th July 2011, as the headliners of the LA Rising festival.
Aside from Rage Against the Machine, Zack was a part of the band One Day as a Lion, alongside Jon Theodore as drummer; the duo released one EP “One Day as a Lion”, before dissolving in 2011.
Since then, he has recorded several solo songs, but also collaborated with other musicians, such as for “Digging for Windows”, on which he worked with El-P, among others.
When it comes to his personal life, Zack is engaged to Carolina Sarmiento. Previously, he was in a relationship with Jenifer Chu, a beauty pageant queen.
